2025 Call to Join the Board of Directors – Black Legacy Collective (BLC)

has concluded.

Black Legacy Collective (BLC) is a national B3 non-profit uncovering, preserving, and sharing the hidden histories of Black people in Ottawa. Through inclusive education, heritage partnerships, and bilingual STEAM programming, we challenge disinformation and take on projects both local and national to ensure Black voices are central to Canada’s national story.

As a Board Director, you’ll help guide BLC’s strategy and strengthen our impact by:

  • Empowering through inclusive education
  • Preserving oral histories and archives
  • Innovating with digital storytelling
  • Engaging and mentoring future generations
  • Advocating for systemic change

Who We’re Looking For


We welcome applications from:

  • Black and/or African, Caribbean, Afro-Indigenous, or Black diasporic identities

  • Francophone Black Canadians, 2SLGBTQIA+, youth, elders, newcomers, or persons with disabilities

  • Anyone deeply connected to Black communities across Canada

Minimum Requirements


✔️ 25+ years old
✔️ Committed to BLC’s mission & values
✔️ 2-5 hours/month for Board & committee work

What You’ll Bring


Passion for Black history, equity, and empowerment — plus skills or lived experience in areas like governance, financial oversight, advocacy, or cultural preservation.
