Heritage Day 2026
Black Legacy Collective at Ottawa City Hall
On February 17, 2026, Black Legacy Collective (BLC) participated in Ottawa’s annual Heritage Day at City Hall. This free public event ran from 12:00 to 2:00 pm in Jean Pigott Hall and brought together more than 50 heritage organizations under the theme “Voices of a City: Celebrating Two Centuries of Collective Histories and Local Heroes in Ottawa.” The event also mared the 200th anniversary of Bytown and the Rideau Canal.
BLC’s booth (in partnership with Capital Heritage Connexion) featured children’s books, educational resources, and local initiatives that highlight Black heritage in Ottawa. Visitors leared how Black communities are part of Ottawa’s 200-year story – and how they can stay involved.
Goals: Increase visibility of Black heritage, share resources, strengthen heritage partnerships, and support youth and community engagement.
